Name: Jail Breaks in Polk County
    Date: June 15, 2019
    Time: 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM PDT
    Event Description:
Presented by Polk County Sheriff, Mark Garton The Sheriff is one of the oldest non-military law enforcement entities in history. We will explore how the role of a Sheriff came to be in Polk County and how the role of Sheriff evolved over the years. Sheriff's have always been tasked with running jails, including back in the era when the King of England signed the Magna Carta in 1215. We will discuss jails and how they were used in the past, compared to today. Early jails were not as well equipped and because of that, many people escaped from jails, including many here in Polk County. We will highlight several successful escapes that occurred at our jail in the late 1800's and early 1900's. You will also hear some other unique stories that you will likely not hear anywhere else.
